The Artists Corner
Andy from DoggieDoc Designs – Artist of the Month
The Black Ops Toys Artists Corner focuses on people in the 1/6 hobby who make amazing art out of 1/6 scale action figures. Often you’ll hear that toys are to be left brand new in the box to be worth anything at all. But we believe that taking these 1/6 scale action figures out of the box and painting, weathering, gluing, sanding, cutting, stitching, and photographing them makes them more valuable to us (THE ARTISTS). The figures are more than just pieces in a box. Kitbashing artists make the figures come alive. These are the artists we focus on.
In this episode, Sully and Jensen speak with Andy Manoloff, the creator behind DoggieDoc Designs, a custom action figure specialty company. Andy creates miniature replicas of props and accessories from movies, TV, and films. Most of his work is done in 1/6 scale. In this interview, Andy talks about how he got started (hint: he used to be a veterinarian), he gives a lot of advice to anyone who wants to customize action figures, and talks about his favorite projects. You can find Andy on his Facebook page or his Instagram. If you want to preorder anything he creates, you’ll want to follow him on his socials. He does not have a preorder or project website.
We recorded this episode on June 28, 2023.
